Obituary

Dover – Albert J, Couture, 78, formerly of Somersworth, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 at the Langdon Place in Dover.

He was born on August 26, 1937 in Rochester, New Hampshire, a son of Albert and Beatrice (Nadeau) Couture.

Albert graduated from St. Martin's, Class of 1951 and from Somersworth High School, Class of 1955. He attended Northeastern University from 1955 to 1957; graduated from Concord Commercial College in 1967 and took USAFI courses from the University of Maryland.

He served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1966, serving in France from 1961-1963.

Albert was employed at AIG for 35 years, working as a programmer and data analyst, retiring in 2000.

He was very active in scouting, joining the Cub Scouts Pack 195 in 1946, then troop 195 sponsored by St. Martin Church. He was then an Explorer advisor for 25 years in Post 617 sponsored by AIG-New Hampshire Insurance Company; one year as skipper with Explorer Ship 617; one year as advisor with Elliot Hospital Medical Explorer Post 986; and the last 30 years with the LL Lee Scouting Museum. He was a holder of the Silver Beaver, Distinguished Commissioner William H. Spurgeon III Award; James E. West Fellow; 1910 Society; Wood Badge beads (Bob White). Albert attended several National and State Jamborees and also attended some 15 National Explorer Conferences. Since 2000, he volunteered with the Red Cross Blood Donor Program.

Albert was a communicant of St. Martin Church where he had served as an usher and was a former staff member of the Somersworth Historical Museum.
He enjoyed traveling to several European countries on various church pilgrimages since 2000. Highlights of these were meeting Pope John XXIII and Pope Paul II and Benedict XVI. He was a member of the Catholic War Veterans, serving as adjutant.

Survivors include his sisters, Lillian Dube of Rochester and "Bernie" Dubois and her husband, James of Somersworth; sister-in-laws, Helene Couture and Lillian Couture; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Paul in 1998 and his twin brother, Robert in 2006.

Services: A time of visitation will be held from 10 AM to 11 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at St. Martin Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, Maple Street, Somersworth, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, immediately following at 11 AM. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Padre Pio Foundation, 463 Main Street, Cromwell, CT 06416.
