Kittery, ME - Alfred D. Poulin of Kittery, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 16th. Born June 30, 1931, he was 84 years old.
Al grew up in Randolph, ME and entered the Marine Corps one day before his seventeenth birthday. Being a Marine was the only thing he wanted to be. Between the Corps and the Reserves, he gave twenty-one years of his life and was the recipient of the Purple Heart and the Presidential Unit Citation for being badly wounded in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir-one of the most savage battles in modern warfare, fought in the bitter cold of a Korean winter.
After leaving the Corps he went to work as a mail carrier with the Kittery Post Office retiring in 1985 after thirty years of service.
Al was a family man and enjoyed many get-togethers with his nieces and nephews. He also loved hunting, fishing, canoeing, the Marine Corps League, and his home.
He was a communicant of St. Raphael's Church in Kittery.
He's survived by his beloved wife, Theresa A. (Harvey) who he met at a Marine Corps Ball in 1950 and married at St. Catherine's Church in Portsmouth on October 2, 1954. They were best friends and partners for sixty-two years and still very much in love with each other.
In addition to his wife, survivors include his sister-in-law, Audrey F. Wilkinson of Kittery, and sister and brother-in-law, John and Helena Hackney of Kittery Point; nieces and nephews, some whom were like his own children, Kathy (& Jon) Pridham of Kittery, John T. Wilkinson III of Portsmouth, Mary E. (& Stephen) Craig of Effingham, N.H., Thomas Hackney of Kittery Point & Nancy (& Allen)
