Obituary

Somersworth - Alice Chretien Auclair, 95, passed away peacefully July 31, 2016 at Holy Cross Health Center in Manchester, NH.

Born in Rochester, NH on January 2, 1921, the daughter of the late Eugene and Delia Chretien.  She graduated from Holy Rosary Elementary School in Rochester, NH.

Prior to residing at St. Ann Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Dover, NH, and Holy Cross Health Center in Manchester, NH, Alice was a communicant of St. Martin Church, Somersworth where she was a member of the Ladies of Saint Anne Sodality, participated in the parish choir for a short time, was Eucharistic Minister, baked goods for various parish functions, and was a promoter for the Miraculous Medal until she passed away.

A loving, caring wife and mother, Alice enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing, knitting, working on crafts, gardening, singing, and laughing.  She was always eager to assist others when needed. Alice also worked at Maybury Shoe/Rochester Shoe in Rochester for 18 years as a packer, Somersworth Shoe in Somersworth lacing moccasins at home, and she retired from G.E. in Somersworth after 9 years of service.

Alice is predeceased by her husband Alphonse Auclair. They were married for 72 years. She also is predeceased by her brothers Eugene and Leo, and her sisters Mary Jane, Yvonne, Olivine, Laura, Annette, and Pauline.  Members of her family include her daughters, Sr. Louise Auclair, CSC of Manchester, NH and Sr. Therese Auclair, CSC of Manchester, NH, her sons, Adrien Auclair and his wife Doris of Rollinsford, NH and Robert Auclair and his wife Louise of Hudson, NH, 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, her sister Louise Pippin of Winter Park FL and several nieces and nephews.

Services: A time of visiting will be held from 10 am – 11 am with A Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated immediately following at 11 am on Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at St. Martin Church of St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish, 120 Maple Street, Somersworth. Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: the Sisters of Holy Cross Development Office, 377 Island Pond Rd. Manchester, NH 03109, or St. Ann Rehabilitation and Nursing Center 195 Dover Point Rd. Dover, NH 03820.
