On January 21, 2026, Alice Marie Emery died peacefully, surrounded by her family. Born December 5, 1939, Alice was the daughter of Earl and Doris Emery, and the youngest of their five children. She was predeceased by her brothers, John, Robert, and Byron. She grew up in Kittery Point, Maine, and graduated from Traip Academy in 1957. After high school, Alice attended Gorham State Teachers College and graduated at the top of her class in 1961.

In 1962, Alice married her high school sweetheart, G. Richard Emery. They settled in Kittery Point, and she began her twenty-seven years as a beloved teacher at The Mitchell School. If teaching was her passion, being a mother was her calling, and in 1963, Alice welcomed her first son, Bill. His arrival was quickly followed by Laura, Rich, and Rob. Alice was further blessed when Grete became part of the family.

Alice retired in 1999, and her talents became focused on the community. She was an active member of the ADK teacher sorority and volunteered at York Hospital for 22 years, where she also served as a member of the board.

Alice's greatest joy in life was family, and her eight grandchildren each brought her immense pride and happiness. She could always be counted on to show up for grandparents' day at school, sporting events, recitals, and performances, no matter how far away or how uncomfortable the bleachers were.

Alice will forever be remembered for her kindness, generous spirit, unwavering support, wise advice, and welcoming heart. You are deeply loved. You are deeply missed. You will never be forgotten.

Alice is survived by her husband of 64 years, G. Richard Emery; her sister, Mary Seward; her children; Bill Emery and partner, Jake Falkenberg; Laura Hofacker and husband, Kurt; Richard Emery and wife, Elizabeth; Rob Emery and wife, Stacey; Grete Doherty and husband, Steve; and her beloved grandchildren; Will, John, Sam, Sophie, Amelia, Thomas, Madeline and Keira who lovingly called her NANA.

A Celebration of Life will be held on June 18 at 11:00 a.m. at The First Congregational Church of Kittery Point, 23 Pepperrell Road, Kittery Point, ME. Following the service, a reception will be held at Envio Rooftop at the AC Hotel Portsmouth, 299 Vaughan St, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
