Portsmouth- Alice Leona Mayhew 106, of 928 South Street Portsmouth died on August 2, 2015 at the Edgewood Center in Portsmouth. A true native of Eliot, Alice was born on Feb 8, 1909 she was born and raised there and attended local schools. She made her home there for many years before moving to Kittery Estates in 2009 where she enjoyed the many friends she made. Most recently she made her home with the wonderful staff and residents who lovingly cared for her at the Edgewood Center. Alice and her daughter with whom she lived for many years Barbara McKenney, were active supporters of the Eliot United Methodist Church. Alice was a lifetime member " 50" plus years in the Women of the Moose Portsmouth chapter 1149. Alice loved tending to plants, especially skilled at " deadheading" flowers, weather they needed it or not. She also enjoyed crochetting, shopping and visits with Tylor, Grace, Garrett , Ava , and Will. She is survived by her sister Rosalind Davis, grandson Ralph McKenney, great grandchildren Marc and Ryan McKenney, her niece and nephew who were her caretakers for many years Judy and James Davis of York, ME, as well as several other neices and nephews. Alice was predeceased by her mother Georgia Langley, daughter Barbara McKenney, sister Viola Perham and brother Herbert Tetherly, her husbands; Arthur Hendrickson and Wendell Mayhew and a special friend for many years Arthur Pease.
