Alice Gertrude (Lilly) Tobey, 99, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2026, in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Alice was born on December 23, 1926, in the family home in Yarmouth, Maine, the daughter of Kenneth and C. Catherine (Carr) Lilly. In 1938, her family left Yarmouth and eventually settled in Eliot, Maine, where she graduated from Eliot High School in 1947.

In 1951, Alice married Charles Tobey. Together they raised five children and built a life centered around family, love, hard work, and the simple joys of being together. She will be remembered for her warmth, quiet strength, and devotion to family.

She enjoyed gardening, square dancing, and spending time at the family camps.

Alice was predeceased by her beloved husband, Charles G. Tobey; her parents; her son Dana Tobey; and her brothers, Kenneth, Arthur and Donald Lilly.

She is survived by her sons, David Tobey and his wife Deborah; Dale Tobey and his wife Joanne; Daniel Tobey and his wife Gail; and her daughter Debra and her husband Stephen; nine grandchildren - Ross, Craig, Ian, Shawn, Courtney, Heather, Jessica, Tonya, and Samantha. She is survived by sixteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She also leaves her dearest friend, Helen Searles.

Although Alice's life has come to an end, the love she gave so freely will continue through the generations that follow her. Her stories will be told, her traditions carried on, and the memories she helped create will remain in the hearts of the family she loved so dearly.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all the caregivers at Wentworth Senior Living in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, and Beacon Hospice for the kindness, compassion, and loving care they provided to Alice during the final stage of her life.

A funeral service will be held at the First Congregational Church of Eliot on September 28 at 11 am, followed by food and fellowship in the community hall.
