Wells- Allan Wild Dawson, age 74, passed away on March 29th, 2016 at Varney Crossing Nursing Home, North, Berwick ME.
Allan was born on January 6, 1942, to parents, Handel Dawson and Ruth (Griffith) Dawson. He grew up in Hampton NH and graduated from Winnacunnet High School, class of 1959. Shortly after High School he accepted a position as a Ship fitter's Apprentice at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he worked for more than 25 years. He was also employed at General Dynamics (Boston Shipyard) and Electric Boat, Groton CT. Through the years he progressed in his career to Naval Nuclear Engineering Technician. He also held positions as union steward In IFPTE Local 4. In addition to his Shipyard career Allan also open a motorcycle shop named, "The Basket Case" to sell parts and pieces to people that had the same love of motorcycles as he did. He loved riding his BMW motorcycle, affectionately called, "the mutant", for it many non-factory parts.
Allan was a social, active man who enjoyed having fun with family and friends. He was an active member of the St James Masonic Lodge for many years and the Dover Moose Lodge. He enjoyed participating in 4-H Horse Club of Berwick Maine as a volunteer. His family and friends will always remember him as the person at all the functions, socializing and making friends. In later years he became involved in a number of studies for the International Fragile X Foundation to help people affected by this genetic disorder. He was able to donate his brain to the Harvard Brain Bank for use in medical research in honor of his grandson who has Fragile X Syndrome.
He is preceded by his daughter Kristen Roberge.
Allan is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patricia (Pinette) Dawson of Wells, ME, his brother, Richard Dawson of Independence MI, his daughter, Kymberly Boulanger of Milton Mills, NH, his son, Keith Dawson of Nashua NH and his 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank all our friends and family for their support during this time and a thank you to the staff at Varney Crossing in North Berwick ME for making these last months' pleasant and comfortable.
Services: A time of visitation is scheduled for Monday, April 4th from 5-7 pm at the JS Pelkey Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Road, Kittery, ME. A funeral service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 5th at 11am at Our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church, 169 Agamenticus Road, South Berwick, ME, with interment directly following at St. Michael Cemetery, Silver Street, Rollinsford, NH. Following the interment the family would like to invite friends and family for coffee and light refreshments at the Rollinsford Legion Hall. The family asks in lieu of flowers, donations may made to the National Fragile X Foundation www.fragilex.org , or the Fraxa Research Foundation www.fraxa.org in his name.
