Alma Pasquale
Locke
Nov 29, 1925 — Dec 2, 2015
Rye, NH. Alma Pasquale Locke, 90 of Rye died peacefully with her daughter Kathy by her side on December 2nd. She was born in Lewiston, ME to Anthony & Annie Pasquale on November 29, 1925, a triplet with brothers Anthony & Philip. They were the oldest living triplets and had an older sister Gloria.
Alma took voice lessons throughout her childhood. At thirteen, Alma and her siblings formed the "Fireside Quartet." They performed in theaters all over Maine and had a fifteen minute radio show twice a week on WCOU radio in Lewiston. They performed at the Blaine House for the governor's wife and for the Rotary Club at the state museum. The "Fireside Quartet won 1st prize in the "All Star Stage Contest" in Brunswick in 1941 when Alma was sixteen. She was the drum majorette for Lewiston High School Band and performed in several musicals. The group was invited to audition for the famous Major Bowes Amateur Hour in Radio City in New York City.
During WWII Alma sang while her sister, Gloria, accompanied her on the piano for many USO performances in Boston. They performed at the Copley Plaza Hotel, The Buddies Club on Tremont Street, the Stagedoor Canteen, and area USO clubs and hospitals. She loved to reminisce about her years of entertaining the troops. She enjoyed singing on the same stage as Guy Lombardo and Bob Hope and recounted the many men who would sing along and cry to their favorite songs.
In 1947 Alma married Richard Locke Jr. and moved to Rye Beach, NH where they would raise their four children. She was the librarian at Rye Jr. High for 30 years. She still found time to perform with the Rye Players, acting in notable plays such as Arsenic and Old Lace and Dear Ruth. As Vice President of the Locke Family Association in the 70's, Alma was the soloist for St. Theresa's in Rye Beach and sang at most funerals and weddings held at the church for over 20 years. Alma successfully spearheaded an effort to restore the name of the historical landmark, Locke's Neck that had been changed to Straw's Point. In 1989, Alma was crowned Mrs. Senior NH and was a finalist in the national Atlantic City Pageant where she sang "Danny Boy" for her talent. At the age of 75, she was stricken with breast cancer and became a cancer survivor. She has six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren whom she loved dearly!
She is survived by her four children, Elizabeth Bontly, husband William, Judith McBrayer, husband Kenneth, Kathy Schmigle, husband Charles and son Richard Locke III.
