Ann Hunter died peacefully December 7th 2016 at ST Ann Nursing and Rehabilitation.
She was born in Amesbury, MA. She attended the Newburyport Schools.
She married George Hunter in 1946, and the couple graciously cared for Mr. Hunter's orphaned brothers, as she was raising her own children.
Ann worked at Portsmouth Hospital for 40 years, and continued for another 15 years as a volunteer. She was named Portsmouth Hospital "Volunteer of the Year" in 2004 with over 2500 volunteer hours logged.
Ann was very active in her senior community and consistently participated in activities like square dancing and crafts fairs. Ann was active in Eliot congregational church when she resided in Eliot.
In the last five years she made her home at Bishop Gendron apartments, in Dover, NH, where she was happy and very active. She was a gracious soul, and was the epitome of warmth and compassion. She had many friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, George Hunter, in 1968, her oldest daughter Sharon Archie in 2001, her sister, Shirley Harris, in 2015.
She has survived by her brother Elmer "Buddy" Dunn of Kensington, NH. Her daughter Diane (and husband Earl Archie) of Largo, FL, and Gary Hunter (and wife Cheryl) of Lebanon, ME. She has nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and leaves behind innumerable friends, including Joyce Miller whom she affectionately called "her angel".
The family would like to thank the community of St. Ann and Bishop Gendron for their support in these last 5 years.
Services: A celebration of her 90 years of life will be held at ST Ann chapel, 195 Dover Point Rd Dover NH at 200pm on Tuesday, December 20th, 2016. Immediately following, friends and family will gather at Eliot Congregational Church, State Rd, Eliot. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Activities Department of the Saint Ann Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, 195 Dover Point Road, Dover, NH (
