Obituary

Kittery - ANN (WOOLES) METZEMAEKERS, 82, of Kittery ME took her place in heaven on July 2, 2020, after fighting many medical conditions for several years.  She was born in Manchester, NH, on January 24, 1938 to Esther (Dionne) and Charles Smith.

Ann Attended St. Patrick's School after her family moved to Portsmouth, NH.  She went to work at an early age for the Music Hall, downtown Portsmouth. Ann, along with her mother and numerous other family members, also worked at home hand sewing leather moccasins.  Over the years, she worked at the Sylvania plant, helped with Wooles Optical, and retired from Scott Electronics.

Ann married Albert Wooles in 1973, and together started The Far Sighted Lamb, an Antique Shop.  She helped Al with Wooles Optical by making deliveries and keeping the books.  Ann and Al were very active in the Lions Club in Kittery.  She worked especially hard on the Red Cross Blood Drives and the school system eye screening program.  One of their favorite pastimes was traveling and trying their luck when they were in Foxwoods or Las Vegas.  All who knew Ann, knew she was known for her fashion and bling.  Al and Ann were married 27 years when she lost the love of her life.

While Ann was working at Scott Electronic, she met and later married Raymond Metzemaekers. She was very proud of her position there and would go in early to unlock and set up for the day.

After several years, Ann was fortunate to find another love, Dag Saunders, who brought her immense love and joy.  Although they had many travel adventures, two trips stand out.  The first was an 8,300 mile odyssey across the U.S, in 2010.  They saw many amazing sights and visited friends along the way.  On their trip back, Ann saw Niagara Falls for the first time.  She like to state that they were together 24/7 and they didn't have one argument.

In 2011, they went the United Kingdom, where he could show Ann many of the historical places he was familiar with from his youth.  Ann was most surprised by how good the food was.  In fact, there was not a meal she did not enjoy. Ann really enjoyed her times spent at Dag's home on the lake.  A favorite pastime was to sit outside by the campfire and share a glass of wine …. or two.  On each July 4 th , they'd sit on a bench at the end of the dock and watch the firework displays all around them.  Ann loved the lake in summer.

Ann was predeceased by her parents, her brother Roger Smith, her son, Roscoe  McDonough, III, husbands, Roscoe McDonough, Jr.,Albert J. Wooles, and Raymond Metzemaekers.

She is survived by her daughters, Donna (Charles) King of Kittery ME, Darlene McDonough of Seabrook, NH, and her special love, Dag Saunders.Grandchildren Michael (Bobbi) Spencer of Cape Neddick ME, James (Amy) Nightingale of Wells ME, Angela (Carl) Wilder of Kittery ME, Erica Levasseur of South Carolina, Tristan McDonough of Seabrook NH.  Great Grandchildren Hannah Nightingale, Ethan Nightingale, Christopher Spencer, Amber Wilder, Hunter Denis, and Kelsi Hutchinson and Dag's daughter, Jessica Davis and her children Ariana, Aiden, and Grayson.
