Obituary

Anne Marie Goodwin (nee Mulkerin) of Kittery, went to rest on Valentine's Day after a period of failing health. She was 86.

Anne was the seventh and youngest child of Patrick and Mary (Faherty) Mulkerin. She was born in Dorchester, MA on 12 March 1933 and spent the first part of her life there. She graduated from St Gregory's high school in 1951 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree from Bentley College while working at Meisel Press in Dorchester. She left there to become bursar of Wentworth Institute of Technology, a position she enjoyed for ten years. For better or for worse, it was at Wentworth where she met Ed. They were married in St Raphael's Church in Kittery on 9 August 1969.
After retiring from Wentworth to raise her family, Anne dove into community volunteering, even while continuing to hold small bookkeeping jobs. She delivered dinners with Meals on Wheels for many years. As her daughter grew older Anne gave her talents to the St Patrick's Parent Teacher Organisation, acting as treasurer and organising bingo fundraising nights, as well as volunteering in the school library. She even took on a troop of 10 first grade Girl Scout Brownies for a year.

Anne became very involved in the Order of Eastern Star and the International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She was a member of the advisory board for Portsmouth Assembly #2, earning the Grand Cross of Color for her dedication. She joined Rivermouth Chapter #54 and enjoyed the friendships she made there and at Trinity Chapter #23. During her years of involvement in Eastern Star she held the offices of Warder and Treasurer, and spent many Saturdays helping to prepare the famous bean suppers.

A fervent Catholic, Anne was a communicant of St Raphael's for over 50 years. During that time she became very involved in the parish community. She was active on the parish Bazaar Committee (often misspelled with a smile), which was a major fundraiser for the church. She crocheted many prayer shawls, which are distributed to people in need of a healing hug, physically, mentally or otherwise. She was involved with the Table of Plenty, which provides a hot meal and socializing once a week to all members of the community. She also organized the schedule of greeters for weekend masses. She used all of these activities to make fast friends, with whom she shared lots of laughs and fun times.
Anne enjoyed travelling, often vacationing in Bermuda with her husband during the early years of their marriage. She spent quite a bit of time in Ireland visiting family, enjoying the scenery and telling her daughter to slow down whilst driving.

Anne was thrown into a menagerie during her time in Kittery, sharing her home at various times with cats, dogs, rabbits, raccoons and the occasional bat. She always had a soft spot for cats, and enjoyed hearing stories of her grandkitties' shenanigans and seeing pictures of them.
Anne leaves behind her husband of fifty years, Ed, daughter Mary (Ellie) Pereira, beloved grandchildren Jessica and Anthony (Teddy), nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and numerous dear friends. She will be sorely missed.
