Arlene Janet
Dixon
Aug 17, 1933 — Sep 3, 2022
Arlene Janet (Fellows) Dixon, 89, of Kittery ME passed away on September 3, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on Badger's Island in Kittery to Octavius and Dorothy (Tilton) Fellows. Arlene was the wife of the late Wayne Alison Dixon of Eliot ME.
Arlene graduated from the Traip Academy, class of 1950, in Kittery. She and Wayne married on September 26, 1952. They lived on Badger's Island while their family grew to include five children. Arlene was a dedicated mother but, in 1979 after her children had grown, she enrolled at Mohegan Community College in Norwich CT. At the age of 46, she was extremely proud to have received her Associate Degree in Science, graduating with High Honors.
Family, both past and present, were the major focus of Arlene's life. Very proud of her heritage, she was an avid genealogist who traced her family roots back to the Mayflower. She rounded out her life with voracious reading, sewing and woodworking/carpentry. She passed these interests and skills on to her children and grandchildren along with her strong work ethic, determination and Yankee ingenuity. But her greatest joy and the legacy she leaves is the love of Family.
Arlene leaves behind her children Elizabeth (Fred) Devine of NC, Stephen Dixon of Kittery ME, Peter Dixon of Griswold CT, Penny (Bryan) Hall of Ledyard CT, Robert (Linda) Dixon of Eliot ME. She leaves eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is survived by siblings Priscilla Wiggins of FL, Mason "Bud" Fellows of FL, Paula Richotte of VT, and Candie Remick of Kittery. Arlene was a special aunt to many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Sylvia Fellows, Mabel Bond, and Linda Pouliot.
On Saturday September 17, a Celebration of Life is planned at The Regatta in Eliot at 12:00 where family and friends can gather in Arlene's honor. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you kindly consider a donation to The Arlene Fellows Dixon Scholarship Fund. Checks will be made payable to TRAIP ACADEMY (Arlene Fellows Dixon Scholarship in the memo) and mailed to Traip Academy, 12 Williams Ave, Kittery ME 03904. Care for the Dixon family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home.
