Obituary

Eliot- Artella Elizabeth Chase, 96 of Barrington, was peacefully ushered into the Lord's presence on April 18, 2015 in Rochester, NH. Born in Eliot, Maine on December 29, 1918 she was a daughter of Clarence and Jessie (Dixon) Plaisted. She graduated from Eliot High School with the class of 1937, and Moulton Beauty School of Portsmouth in 1938 and worked as a hairdresser for many years. In September of 1939 she married Ralph Chase, the love of her life, and together they settled in Eliot and raised their family. Ralph and Artella owned and operated several neighborhood Minit Market grocery stores throughout Eliot, Portsmouth, Kittery and York but it was the Riverwatch Clam Hut on Badgers Island that Artella that she was most famous for. Her faith in Jesus Christ was very important to her and she attended Crosspoint Church in Rochester. She had been a long time member of the First Congregational Church in Eliot. Always active, Artella did all things well and was a champion bowler as a member of the "Gadabouts" bowling team at Bowl O Rama in Portsmouth. She loved playing bingo, sewing, hooking rugs, knitting, gardening, ceramics, bird watching and enjoyed redecorating the family home. She will be dearly missed by her loving family. She lived with her daughter Linda Chase Limanni and son-in-law Chuck Limanni in Barrington. Her son R. Kenneth Chase, Jr. (Patricia) lives in Pawleys Island, SC. She loved and cherished her 5 grandchildren, David Chase of SC, Jennifer Chase Goldberg (Lawrence) of SC, Brandon Limanni (Stacy) of TX, Nicholas Limanni (Sara) of North Berwick, Angela Limanni of Barrington and her 5 great-grandchildren, Ethan, Dillon, and Liam Limanni and Abigail and Molly Goldberg. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph (1985), brother Wilbur Plaisted and wife Bernice, brother Harlon Plaisted and wife Ruth, and sister Celia Norton and husband William. Friends may visit with Artella's family on Thursday from 6-8 pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904, where her funeral will be led by Pastor David Blakney on Friday at 10am .
