March 1, 2016-Arthur W. Andrews was born in 1932 in Embden, Maine, and grew up in the small town of Solon, where as a young boy he attended a one room school for many years. He loved recounting stories of his early childhood on the "farm" and fishing in the local stream. He moved to Madison, Maine where he attended Madison High School. He was very involved in sports and other school activities and where he met Roseann Nason. After high school, Arthur and Roseann were married and "Andy" joined the United States Air Force. He served in the Korean War and then they moved to Orono where he attended the University of Maine. After college, He began a successful career with Seaward Construction Company for 25 years and became the executive vice president before he retired. During this time he and Roseann bought a home in Kittery where they raised a family and both were very active in civic projects such as Cub Scouts and local sports. He happily built a cabin on his property for the scouting groups and their activities and also a baseball ball field that many local sports players remember fondly. He retired from Seaward but did not fully understand the idea of "retire", and in 1986 began Andrews Construction company which is still successfully run by his sons. In 1997, he stepped down as a town councilman after having served for 12 fulfilling years. Andy loved the hard work of splitting and stacking wood, and he also loved working in the woods, raising red elk, feeding the geese, ducks and deer in his backyard and watching the Red Sox as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sporting events. His grandchildren all fondly remember the endless hours when he provided rides around the yard in a wagon that he pulled behind his tractor. He loved fishing in the deep woods of Maine as well as resting in a chair watching the sunset at the lake. "Andy" was preceded in death by his wife, Roseann. He will be fondly remembered by his children, Judith Andrews, Stephanie Andrews, Lisa Hippern, Arthur (Chip) Andrews, and Chris Andrews. He will be greatly missed by his 1O grandchildren, Oriana Allen, Eben Harris, Carmen Adams, Ian Adams, Lauren Andrews, Conner Andrews, Brian Hippern, Nathen Hippern , Kaylie Andrews, Madison Andrews, and his 5 great grandchildren; Aiden McPherson, Parker McPherson, Aida Allen, Dash Allen and Henry Allen.
