Arthur (Art) Eastwood Jr., 83, Peacefully passed away on April 30, 2024. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, on April 20, 1941, the son of Arthur Eastwood Sr. and Hazel (Ashcroft) Eastwood.
Arthur grew up on the shores of Biddeford Pool, Maine. He attended Biddeford schools and the Maine Maritime Academy and continued his education at Saint Joseph College. In the 1960s, he enlisted in the Air Force and was eventually deployed overseas. He proudly served two tours in Vietnam as a helicopter gunner in 1966. He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart in 1968.
Following his military service, Arthur worked for the United States Postal Service for many years. His desire to work with youth eventually landed him a position in the state of Maine as a T.S.C.II at the former Maine Youth Center in South Portland, where he worked until his retirement in 2008. A few years later, Arthur and his family moved to their new home on the banks of the Piscataqua River in Eliot, Maine.
Throughout his life, he served his community as a volunteer fireman for the Biddeford Pool Fire Department. He was a member of the Congregational church of Saco, Maine, and a 50-year temple life member of the Kora Temple of Lewiston, Maine.
In addition to his busy career, Arthur enjoyed motorcycling, hunting, fishing, and hiking. He will be forever remembered for his phenomenal sense of humor, charitable generosity, and love for family, friends, and life.
Arthur is survived by his wife, Paula (Rowell) Eastwood, and his children: John Saulnier of Eliot, Maine; Kirsten Hunt of Utah; Michelle and Belinda Eastwood of North Berwick, Maine; Amanda Jones of Durham, New Hampshire; and three grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be announced at a future date.
