Obituary

Arthur "Hawser" Lunt left us unexpectedly to be with the Lord, August 1, 2022 with his wife Jean by his side. Born Sept. 21, 1946 to Earl and Rita (Walp ) Lunt, in Portland, Maine, Arthur William was the youngest of 5 children; 3 brothers and a sister, who fondly called him "Hawser". They spent time in the Willard Beach area of South Portland and attended South Portland schools.

After a year of college at SMTC, Arthur joined the Navy (1966-69). He was stationed on the USS Wasp and traveled as a signalman supporting the U.S. Fleet. He was a volunteer firefighter for the SPFD for several years, and worked for Portland Pipeline,Weyerhaeuser, and Southbound Transfer. He was also a lobsterman out of Portland, Maine, aboard his boats Jubilee and Eliezer, training his son John to love the trade as well. He retired from Pactiv, South Portland, ME in 2014.

Arthur was a devoted Christian, actively taking part in his church, men's bible studies and prison ministry. He enjoyed talking with friends from many states whom he met through church, photographing beautiful sights and walking 3 miles a day to keep fit. Most of all his kind, loving demeanor lent itself to being with his family, watching his grandchildren grow, and spending time with the love of his life of 42 years, whom he often called, "My Sweetie Pie."

He was predeceased by his parents, twin brother John, and nephew Russell, and is survived by his wife Jean (McMillin Chandler), son John Chandler & Wife Debbie, daughter Sherri Brown & husband Dana, brothers Bob and Donald, sister Elaine Jones & husband George, brother-in-law Gary McMillin & wife Linda, and sister-in-law Dolores McMillin. He was lovingly known as "Bumpy" by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren Tim, Mickey J., Jason, Ashley, Keegan, Kallista, and Kory, Caeley, and Brayden, and uncle to Jennifer Cook & husband Gary, Edward Lunt & MaryLee, Peter Lunt & Debbie, Jennifer Worthy & husband Joseph, Crystal & Jonnie, Patricia, and Daniel McMillin & wife Candace, and great nephews and nieces.

A devoted and beloved brother, uncle, husband, father, and grandfather, Arthur will be deeply missed, but his family and friends know he is rejoicing with our Heavenly Father above.

A service will be held at Heritage Baptist Church at 186 Dover Point Rd, Dover, NH 03820, on Thursday, Aug 11, 2022 at 11a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Heritage Baptist Church in his name.
