Arthur
Perkins
May 12, 1931 — Apr 5, 2019
Eliot, ME- Arthur E. Perkins, 87, died on April 5, 2019 at his home with loving family by his side, following an extended period of failing health.
Born in York, ME to Lester and Sylvia Perkins of Cape Neddick on May 12, 1931 Arthur attended local schools with his two brothers.
Arthur joined the Navy in 1950 and served his country starting at USNTC Bainbridge. After 4 years in the Navy he started working at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery until his retirement in 1986.
In his spare time Arthur loved to go to Gilley's in Portsmouth's Market Square and going to the drive-in movies.
In 1953 he married Glenda Mitchell, whom he met at York Beach, and together they made a home in Eliot where they raised their family and have remained ever since.
Arthur and his family spent countless summer hours together enjoying the family camp in Wakefield NH where a typical day could have them boating, biking and maybe even pitching a game of horseshoes. Often he would take the family to the White Mountains and Clarks trading post to watch the trained bears and ride the tramway or gondola. Sometimes it was Canobie Lake.
Arthur is survived by his wife of 64 years, Glenda Perkins, son Michael Perkins with Sandy LaRoche of Rochester, daughter Debbie (Perkins) Corby and her husband Gene Corby of Kittery, daughter Cathy (Perkins) Whitney and her husband Stephen Whitney of Kittery, grandsons; Gene Corby, Michael Perkins, Eric Perkins, William Hickman, Joseph Martel and Stephen Whitney, granddaughters; Shelly Bishop and Tabitha Whitney and several Great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to join Arthurs' family at 11 AM on Wednesday April 10, 2019 at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Eliot for a graveside memorial and burial. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com .
