Obituary

Barbara Fay (Stevens) Fowler, 91, of Eliot, ME passed away peacefully on December 27, 2023.

She was the eldest daughter of Beatrice & Newton Stevens, born on March 12, 1932 in Biddeford, ME.  She grew up in Biddeford attending the Emery School and Biddeford High School, graduating in 1950.  Subsequently, she furthered her studies at Northeastern Business College in Portland, Maine.  Upon completion of business school, Barbara was proud to have a job at the Saco-Lowell Mill as a Key Punch Operator.   Barbara also enjoyed many part time jobs including The Portsmouth Herald, the Northeaster & Rex Motels, Montgomery Wards, and Lenox.

Barbara connected with the love of her life Fred E. Fowler on their senior class trip to Washington D.C.  They were married December 26, 1951 and remained happily married for
59 years until Fred's passing in 2010.  Fred's first deployment with the Air Force took them to Alaska, then Tennessee.  After which they moved to Kittery, ME to raise their children, eventually settling in Eliot, ME.

Barbara & Fred delighted in many summers at their camp on Square Pond entertaining friends and family, as long as she didn't get her hair wet!  They also experienced many wonderful trips together with the Prime Time Club, her favorite being Hawaii.

Barbara had a special ability to make friendships, laughs and connections everywhere throughout her entire 91 years.  She has lifelong friends from Admiralty Village in Kittery, her jobs, the Red Hats, and the Prime Time Club.

Barbara was a connoisseur of sweet treats.  There were always freshly baked goodies in her kitchen and her whoopie pies were in high demand at family parties.  Barbara is remembered as the heart of her family. Perhaps her favorite role of all time was that of being a Grandmother.  Her door, kitchen, and heart were always open.

Barbara was predeceased by her husband Fred, son Brian and sister Cora.  She is survived by her son Fred Jr. & wife Carol Fowler, daughter Sue & husband Russell Caldwell.  Grandchildren: Fred Fowler III, Tracy & Ken Mullins, Alyssa & Richard Mewer, Adam Caldwell, Ashley & Torrey Charnock, Brian Fowler Jr, Kristen & Matt Greene, and Sarah Fowler.  Great Grandchildren: Kendall, Noah, Addison, Nola, Wylder & Elsie.  Siblings: Karl Stevens, Elsa Dyke, Ella Leavitt, and Frank & Kathy Stevens as well as many nieces & nephews.

A Graveside Burial Service will be held this coming spring at the Southern Maine Veterans Cemetery in Springvale, ME to be announced at a later date.
