Berndt (Bernie) Erikson, age 66, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 23, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
A plumber by trade, a helper by nature, and a true rebel at heart, Bernie honored his Viking heritage through his fierce independence, lively spirit, and deep loyalty. He was never one to blindly follow the rules, often pushing boundaries and testing limits, but everyone who knew him was infinitely better for it. Underneath his rebellious streak was the kindest, most loving heart imaginable. Bernie lived out his Catholic faith through quiet action, always being the first to step up when someone was in need, whether that meant fixing your pipes, bringing over groceries, or literally giving you the shirt off his back.
Bernie welcomed everyone without judgment and brought an undeniable, magnetic energy wherever he went. From the sidewalks of his neighborhood to local spots like Pine Tree and Long Sands, Bernie made friends everywhere he went throughout his entire life. He possessed a rare gift for forming deep, enduring bonds, remaining fiercely connected to his lifelong childhood crew while constantly welcoming new friends into his circle at every stage of his life. Everyone loved Bernie, and everyone felt the warmth of his heart.
Above all else, Bernie lived for his family. For over twenty years, he shared a deep, unwavering love with his wife, Karen Doble. Together, they built a life and a marriage rooted in commitment and strength, showing everyone around them what it truly means to stand by someone's side through everything, the kind of devotion anyone would hope to find in a partner.
He was the immensely proud father of Laci Dussault and Berndt Erikson, giving them a childhood filled with joy, laughter, and an attentive dad who was always on the floor playing, creating memories that forever touch every park, beach, and playground. That same devotion carried straight into his role as a grandfather. His grandchildren, Hunter and Matty, were the absolute joys of his life. They adored their "Pa," receiving that same present, fun-loving spirit from a grandfather who never let anything stop him from getting right back down on the floor to play with them.
One of Bernie's greatest achievements was his journey in sobriety. Through his dedication, he gave his family the priceless gift of presence; filling their home with warmth, nightly dinners around the table, a listening ear for every story, and years of memories they will treasure forever. His legacy of love, laughter, hard work, and unshakeable loyalty lives on in all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Doble; his children, Laci Dussault and Berndt Erikson; his stepson, Justin Cobb; his cherished grandchildren, Hunter and Matty; his beloved siblings, Susan McConnell, Mary Hadley, Barbara Erikson, Thomas Erikson, and their spouses; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews, all of whom he loved and cared for deeply; and a vast circle of friends made throughout every chapter of his life.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed immediately by the memorial service at 11:00 AM.
