Somersworth - Bernice Margaret (Callahan) Stucker, 89, of Somersworth, N.H., a loving wife, mother, grandmother and tireless community volunteer, passed away at home surrounded by family on April 3, 2017.
Bernice was born in Schenectady, N.Y., on February 5, 1928, to Ernest Callahan and Margaret (Cook) Callahan. She met her beloved husband, Harold Stucker, while working at General Electric. Bernice and Hal married in Schenectady on Oct. 16, 1954.
Family meant everything to Bernice, who was known for hosting holiday events, family meals and social gatherings, as well as making sure no one ever left her home hungry.
She spent over 50 years serving the community and the state with the Somersworth and New Hampshire Women's clubs. She played crucial roles in both clubs, including terms as each club's president. Bernice was also extremely active in her church, First Parish United Church of Christ in Somersworth.
Bernice is survived by her children, Rhys Stucker and his wife, Heidi, of Alton; Eric Stucker and his wife, Leah, of Berwick, Maine; Kimberly Taylor and her husband, Brian, of Kittery, Maine; Kirk Stucker and his wife, Kamra, of Barrington; Brian Stucker and his wife, Jerri, of Nottingham; Craig Stucker and his wife, Janet, of Scarborough, Maine; as well as 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.
Her parents, husband and one sister, Elizabeth (Callahan) Dobbertin, preceded her in death.
Services: Visiting hours will be held at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St, Somersworth, NH, on Monday, April 10, 2017, from 4 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held at First Parish United Church of Christ, 176 W High St, Somersworth, NH, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 11, 2017. All who loved her are welcome to attend and pay respect to an exceptional woman. A private burial ceremony will be held at a later date.
