Betty May Searles, 93, of Kittery, ME, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2025, at Durgin Pines, where she had resided for the past six years. She was born on May 5, 1931, to Evelyn Frink and the late William Frink in Somerville, MA.
Betty grew up in Somerville, MA, where she met and married the love of her life, John E. Searles, in 1961. John and Betty relocated to Kittery, ME, in 1962, where they made their home and raised their family.
Betty worked in food service at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for many years. She was a long-time parishioner at St. Raphael's Church in Kittery, a member of the Alter Society, and a Eucharistic Minister of Holy Communion. She enjoyed crocheting and made many pieces for the church's Christmas Bazaar every year.
Betty enjoyed her time at Durgin Pines, and she especially enjoyed the activities and made many friends among the Staff and Residents.
Betty's greatest joy was her family. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother, great-grandmother, and Aunt to her family.
She was predeceased by her parents, Husband John, and Sisters Evelyn Frink and Edna. Maloney, Brother William Frink and Grandson Russell Cook.
She is survived by her five children, Joseph (Kathy) Afienko, Lynn Racine, Paula Searles, William Searles and Stephen (Kitty) Searles. Her Grandchildren, Joey (Abbey) Afienko, April Spencer, Sarah Racine and fiancée Jeff, Jennifer (Dan) Henry, Kenneth (KC), Goodwin, Khrissy Harris, and Sara (John) Masland. Great Grandchildren: Damien, Danika, Danielle, Caylee, Nathan, Makenzie, Hunter, River, Piper, Oliver, Rusty, Henry, and Sawyer. And her nephew John Tarca and his family.
The family would like to thank the staff at Durgin Pines for their care and kindness toward Betty.
There are no calling hours. A Catholic Mass Funeral will be held on Friday, March 21, 2025, 11am at St. Raphael's Church, 6 Whipple Road, Kittery, ME 03904. A private graveside service will be held in the spring.
