Kittery, Maine - Bibb G. Longcrier passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 12, 2022. Bibb was born December 17, 1934 in Florence, Alabama son of the late Walter F. Longcrier and Mabel C. Ford. He entered the Air Force in 1952. After completing training at Lackland AFB, TX and Scott AFB. Il. His career took him to assignments at Bergstrom AFB, TX, Altus AFB, OK, Gifu AS, Japan, Westover AFB, MA, Kadena AB, Okinawa, Plattsburgh AFB, NY, Da Nang AB, Republic of Viet Nam, Osan AB, Korea, and Pease AFB, NH. He also saw duties in Greenland, England, Spain, Guam, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, and the Azores. His awards include the Bronze Star, three Air Force Commendation Medals plus those associated with other assignments and duties. He retired from the Air Force at Pease AFB in 1978.
Having dropped out of Sheffield High School in Sheffield, AL, he obtained a Certificate of Equivalency in the service and later earned an Associate of Arts and Bachelor of General studies from the University on New Hampshire and a Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration from New Hampshire College. He taught computer classes a number of years for the adult education programs of Kittery, York, Wells and Old Orchard Beach. After the service he worked as an Instructor and Senior Test Supervisor for Data General Corporation and as a Computer Program Analyst/Specialist for the National Park Service at Boston National Historical Park. His love for travel, coupled with his service career, took him and Karen to over 100 different countries and/or islands during their time together. He was a Kiwanian, a Life Member DAV, a Life Member VFW, a Life Member USAF Sergeant's Association, a member of the Boston Computer Society, the Kittery Historical & Naval Society, Pease Greeters and he was an ardent animal lover.
Survivors include his wife, Karen M. (Osterkamp), his son Donald G. (wife Sandra) of Norman, OK. His daughter Jo Diane Spears (husband Robert) of Pearland, TX. His step-son Bryan Shoup (wife Karen Smith) of Jeffersonville, VT, and granddaughters Elizabeth and Antoinette Longcrier. Grandchildren Mathew Spears, Daniel Spears and Rachel (Spears) and two great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by his parents, brothers Thurman, Billy and Roy.
In Lieu of flowers donations are requested for the Kittery Historical and Naval Museum and the Stratham ASPCA12/17/
