Obituary

Somersworth - Bruce Alfred Dumais, 83, of Somersworth, NH, died peacefully on Friday, December 16th, 2022, after a brief period of failing health.  Born on May 30, 1939 in Rochester, NH, Bruce was a lifelong resident of Somersworth, the son of Thomas Alfred and Lilia Dumais.
He was employed for 35 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as an engineering technician, but the work he enjoyed most was keeping statistics for local high school sports teams, primarily with Somersworth and Spaulding High Schools.  In all, he spent nearly 50 years documenting the local sports scene and was a true historian of local football and basketball.  He took tremendous joy from working with coaches and athletes throughout the years.
Outside of the high school sports scene, Bruce also meticulously collected records, primarily 45s, and baseball cards. He was known to be able to name the artist, record label and B-side of most rock and roll records from the 50s and early 60s.  He also enjoyed many years playing men's league softball and, as was his nature, kept notebooks and newspaper clippings dating back to the early 60s documenting his time with teams such as Cartier Club.
Bruce is predeceased by his wife, Bethany Dumais, and leaves behind a brother Laurence Dumais of York, Maine, and three children: Diana Dumais of Dover, Jonathan Dumais of Tucson, AZ, and James Dumais of Somersworth.
A graveside service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Somersworth on May 20th at 11AM.  A celebration of life at the Rollinsford American Legion will follow.
