Eliot-Carole Anne Shirk, 84, of Eliot, Maine, died Friday morning November 26th at home from a broken heart. Carole was born in Medford, Massachusetts on April 12 th , 1937. She was the daughter of the late Ronald Rogers and Alice Muriel (Millican) Rogers.
Carole attended Arlington Elementary School until 1947. She then moved with her family to Wentworth, New Hampshire, attending schools there. Carole graduated from Plymouth High School in 1955.
Carole entered the United States Air Force in July of 1955. She trained at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, Texas. She was in the Air Force choir during her time there. Carole then moved on to McGuire AFB in New Jersey, working in the MATS Comptroller Division. She was a civilian employee there until moving to Oklahoma. She returned to New Hampshire and landed a job at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where she met the love of her life, Lawrence Eugene Shirk. Lawrence was in the Marines and together they formed an everlasting bond. They married on October 5 th , 1962. They lived in Kittery, Maine until purchasing the Morin Brickyard Farm in Eliot in 1968. That is where they raised their family until their deaths. They were married nearly 60 years until Lawrence's death on October 2 nd , 2021.
Carole was active in the Girl Scouts, 4-H club, and Marshwood Band Parents for over eighteen years. Carole was a very active participant in the First Congregational Church of Eliot. She was a member, on the Diaconate, Choir, Church Clerk, Ladies Circle, Women's Fellowship and missions, and chairperson of the Church Council. She was a member of the Friends of the Library and Eliot Health Council. Carole was also an Eastern Star member from 1985-1990. She knitted hats for the military and newborns for York Hospital. She led a very active life traveling with her husband and going on many MetLife business trips. Carole also held many jobs. She worked at Spillers in York, Mikasa Outlet in Kittery, Marshwood Gardens, and was secretary at Marshwood Adult Education.
Carole is predeceased by her parents and husband Lawrence E "Larry" Shirk. Carole leaves behind her brother John "Jack" Rogers and wife Sharon. She leaves her son Kirby A. Shirk, daughter Kimberly A. and husband Dale Pillsbury, daughter Lauren E and husband Paul Reindl, daughter Rhonda J. Shirk and partner Heidi Brown, daughter Rebecca L. Crowley and fiancé Edward Moreau. Her grandchildren Jeremie Pillsbury and wife Amy, Elizabeth and husband Patrick Hankin, Brandon Baker and partner Shelby Stoothoff, Megan Pillsbury and fiancé Andrew Mockler, and Banning Crowley. Great grandchildren Kayleigh and Nolan Hankin, and Duke Pillsbury.
Friends are invited to visit with Carole's family on Sunday December 5, 2021 from 3-5pm in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. A funeral will be celebrated on Monday December 6, 2021 at 11am in her church, First Congregational Church of Eliot UCC, 1361 State Road Eliot Maine 03903 with the Rev.
