Obituary

Kittery- Charles P. "Mickey" Gaffney, 78 of Cutts Road in Kittery died on July 14, 2016 at York Hospital following a period of failing health. A true native of Kittery, he was born on February 21, 1938 a son of the late Charles P. Sr and Etta ( Roberge ) Gaffney. Following graduation from R. W. Traip Academy Mickey served two tours as a combat veteran of the United States Marine Corps. He served proudly with the "Thundering Third" as a scout swimmer and machine gunner. Sergeant Gaffney received a number of commendations for his service in the Viet Nam theatre of operations. Mr. Gaffney worked for a time at the Morley Company in Portsmouth and Watts Fluid Air in Kittery. He spent a number of years as an inside machinist in shop 31 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. He also spent nearly twelve years working for the NH Bridge Authority on the Memorial Bridge. He and his loving wife MaryAnn (Brockup) Gaffney were married in 1967 and they remained in Kittery raising their family living for many years on Boush Street in Kittery before Cutts Road became their home. Mickey enjoyed hunting early in life, skeet and trap shooting and fishing as well as watching house renovation programs. He was an avid football fan enjoying the RW Traip Academy High School football games as well as NFL games. He was an avid classic and hot rod car enthusiast and enjoyed travelling, especially visiting colonial Williamsburg and family in Pittsburgh, California and New Jersey as well as Las Vegas. He enjoyed Kittery history and his families deep roots in the community. He is survived by his loving wife MaryAnn of Kittery, son Michael and his wife Heather Gaffney of Burbank, CA, brothers Dr. Thomas Gaffney of Portland, ME and Dennis Gaffney and his partner Joan Pelkey of Eliot, ME, and several cousins and close friends. Friends may visit with his family on Tuesday from 6-8 pm in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904. A Funeral will be celebrated in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1pm with burial in Brooks Memorial Park in Eliot to follow, all are invited for a luncheon at the First Congregational Church of Eliot UCC. at 1361 State Road Eliot Maine 03903.
