Obituary

Eliot- Charles G. Tobey Jr, 86 of Fore Road in Eliot died peacefully on January 14, 2015 at his home surrounded by family. He was born on February 9, 1928 in Beverly MA, the son of Charles Sr. and Cordelia ( Wildes) Tobey. He was a graduate of R.W Traip Academy with the class of 1945. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Tech Sgt. serving in Korea. He returned from his military service furthering his education earning a degree from New Hampshire Vocational Technical School in 1950 and attending MIT so that he could teach a sheetmetal apprentice class. In 1951 he married his loving wife of sixty three years Alice ( LILLY) Tobey and together they have made a home and raised a family in Eliot. A talented businessman Charlie was the past President and owner of Tobey Sheetmetal Company which he began in 1974 and operated until his rerirement in 1991. He was a member of the Kittery Masonic Naval Lodge #184, the Downeast Square Dancers, and a past member of the TCA Train Collectors Association. Charlie loved Boating and restoring boats, spending time at his camp on Grand Lake Stream, taking his grand and great grandchildren to see the trains in the train room and boating on his Chris Craft boat he built with his son Danny. He is survived by his loving wife Alice of Eliot, children David and his wife Debbie Tobey of Grand Lake Stream, Maine, Dana Tobey of Eliot, Dale and his wife JoAnne Tobey of Grand Lake Stream, Maine, and Debra and her husband Stephen Lindsey of Groton, NH, grandchildren Tonya Tomah, Samantha Verratti, Heather Sockabasin, Jessica Howlett, Ross Lindsey, Craig Lindsey, Shawn Tobey, Courtney Tobey, and Ian Tobey , great grandchildren; Charles, Toby, Eddy and Raymond Tomah, Reanna, Paige and Dehkin Sockabasin, David Howlett and Elliott Lindsey, A funeral will be celebrated at his church, The First Congregational Church of Eliot, UCC on State Road in Eliot at 2pm on Sunday with a time of refreshment to follow in the church parish hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to the Eliot Historical Society. Care for the Tobey Family is entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home .
