Charlie "Chuck"
Macdonald Jr.
May 19, 1963 — Mar 3, 2022
Eliot, ME - Charles "Chuck" MacDonald Jr. passed away, peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 3,2022 after a 20 month battle with ALS. Charlie was born in Portsmouth, NH on May 19, 1963 to the late Charles R. MacDonald Sr. and Shirley (Hobbs) MacDonald.
Charlie graduated Portsmouth High School in 1981 and began a storied 38 year career at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, in 1983, as a Temporary Services Electrician Apprentice in shop 99. He diligently worked his way up through the shop, eventually becoming the head of all production work at the yard as the Production Resources Department Operations Manager. He served as a leader and delegate for the shipyard taking countless trips to Washington DC to advocate for the yard and all of its people that he loved so much.
Always a natural athlete, he excelled in hockey and golf since childhood, and loved to water ski at his camp on Burnt Meadow pond whenever he could. He relished in the opportunities to develop the athletic skills of all three of his beloved children often practicing and coaching them in baseball, basketball, soccer, volleyball and golf. When the weather kept him inside, which wasn't often, he could be found taking on his son in heated scrimmages of ping pong and table hockey. He was also an avid Patriots and Bruins fan, never missing a game and always providing his own brand of inspirational coaching to the players through the television.
Always a perfectionist, he never let a leaf stay on his lawn or salt on his prized Jeep Grand Cherokees that he owned throughout the years. He could often be found washing his prized Jeep in the driveway even in the brisk New England Winters. He never missed the weather portion of the nightly news because he needed to know if weather conditions would be favorable to give his car a wash the next day. He was meticulous in every facet of his life, but never called upon the help of others to make things perfect. He was a worker, and he never stopped fixing, building and maintaining things for himself, family, friends, or any stranger that would allow him to help.
Burnt Meadow Pond in Brownfield, ME was Charlie's heaven on earth. He spent countless hours with all of his family water skiing, boating, tubing, sun tanning on the raft, building the dock, and playing canasta whilst enjoying his Coors lights and the occasional margarita. His greatest pride and pleasure was to be the camp short order cook as he would spend hours at the flattop griddle preparing pancakes, eggs and bacon for everyone as they woke up, so that their breakfast would be hot and fresh, all the while taking short breaks to sip his Pepsi and muse over the Conway Sun newspaper.
He is survived by his wife Lucie (Fecteau) MacDonald and their three children: Charles R. MacDonald III of Eliot, ME, Sarah MacDonald of Portland, ME, and Rebecca Corbly and her husband, Tyler, and their children Clara and Kevin Corbly of Eliot, ME, mother Shirley MacDonald of Hampton, NH, siblings John and wife Kathy MacDonald of New Durham, NH, Beth Perry and husband, Ron, of Hampton, NH, Christopher and wife Alicia MacDonald and their daughter Reese MacDonald of Eliot, ME, and many beloved in-laws, cousins, nieces and nephews.
