Obituary

Eliot-Cheryl L. Remick Goodwin, 81, of Baran Place in Eliot passed away on October 25, 2024 at Cedar Healthcare Center in Portsmouth, NH surrounded by her loving family following a period of declining health.

Cheryl was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire on December 7, 1942 a daughter of the late Wesley Edwin Remick and Eleanor May (Chandler) Remick.

She grew up in Atlantic Heights in Portsmouth, NH until age 9 when the family moved to the family farm in Eliot, ME.  With guidance of her mother and aunts, she joined the order of Rainbow.  Cheryl graduated from Eliot High School in 1960 and then attended McIntosh College in Dover, NH in 1961 where she met a lifelong friend, Janet Canney.  After college, Cheryl worked for Household Finance, Liberty Mutual and then the family farm, Kewago Farm, in Eliot until retirement.  She and her second husband enjoyed traveling throughout the country with his street rod to various car shows.  Cheryl loved the beach and spent a great deal of time at Wallis Sands in Rye, NH, Panama City Beach, FL and 20 plus years in Aruba where she made friends with a group of people from all over and called themselves the Loop Group.  Mom always enjoyed time with townfolk at the old Eliot Meat Market to discuss local events.  She loved time with family spending time with them during the holidays and special events.  Cheryl made Christmas so much fun for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She didn't miss many of the New England sports games always staying up late and texting us with the scores so we would see them in the morning.

Cheryl was predeceased by her parents, brother Ralph Remick, second husband Kenneth Wayne Goodwin and stepson Curtis Goodwin.  She is survived by her sister Barbara Remick Newhouse (Donald), daughter Kimberly Libby (Everett Pearl), son Kelly Goodwin (Patricia), son Brian (Lydia), stepsons Justin (Linda) and Brent (Marie), along with grandchildren Cory (Tiffani), Kacy (Travis), Jacob, Myles (Danielle), Jacyln, Brittany, Kenney and Nicole and great-grandchildren to GG: Gavin, Hudson, Paige and Artymon.  Cheryl is also survived by her first husband Melvin (Karen) and several nieces and nephews.

Mom endured a lot during her life, but she was a strong person and best mom, grammie, GG and friend to many, especially Jeanne Leavitt and Bill and Pat Shapleigh.  She will be sorely missed but in our hearts forever.

A special thank you to the staff at Cedar Healthcare and the hospice team from Cornerstone VNA.  You helped maintain her grace during her final days.

Per Cheryl's request, there will only be a private service for family and some of her closest friends.
