Obituary

Clinton R. "Chummy" Schoff, 77, a lifelong cornerstone of the South Berwick community, died at his home on May 23, 2017 with his loving family by his side.

Born in South Berwick on January 28, 1940 he was the son of the late Clinton H. and Lena A
(Gaudette) Schoff. He attended local schools, graduating from Berwick Academy with the Class of 1959. Clint was an incredibly proud recipient of the Academy's Lifetime Achievement Award, while being honored in a ceremony in the spring of 2014.
He served our country in both the United States Marine Corps Reserve, and the United States Coast Guard, with the latter including a deployment in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. He ran the Base Exchange in Groton, CT. and also worked at the commissary, the clothing store, the Officers Club, and as a computer operator at the former Pease Air Force Base, in Newington, NH. Clint continued his service in the Sail Loft, and as an apprentice instructor at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and represented many co-workers as a two term Union President for the American Federation of Government Employees.
Always active in his community, Clint was a founding member and a longtime volunteer of the South Berwick Emergency Rescue Squad. He devoted countless hours to the town through the squad, and annually helped to raise the necessary funds required to maintain the highest level of care for the people in his community. He was a "Pease Greeter", and a life member of the VFW Chapter 5744. In addition, Clint was a beloved member of the South Berwick Police Department, serving as a traffic officer and true friend, for over fifteen years.
Clint's eternal love was unquestionably his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Jacqueline (Pelletier) Schoff on September 23, 1961 and together they raised a family in his hometown. Clint carried many titles throughout his lifetime, but the ones that brought him the most pride and joy were "Husband" to Jackie, "Father" to his three children, Michael, Marc and Lori (McPherson) and "Papa" to his beloved grandchildren, Morgan and Alli Schoff and Mallory McPherson. His family circle was large and full and also included Michael's wife, Janet and her three children, Travis, Erin and Gage Zickefoose and Lori's stepson, Matthew McPherson who lovingly referred to him as "Bumpa". Clint will always be "Chummy" to his surviving brother Jack Schoff, sisters Anita (Bob) Gagne, Bonnie Ham, Connie Lee and Tina (Steve) Lincoln just as he was to those who predeceased him, sister Kay (Joseph) Scanlon and brothers Wayne (Patricia) Schoff and Gary Dean Schoff. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and "very best friend", Carlton Spring.
