In Loving Memory of Dale Higgins

Dale was a devoted husband, proud father, cherished Papa, loyal friend, and steadfast provider whose greatest purpose was caring for the people he loved. He never sought recognition for the sacrifices he made or the countless ways he put others first. Instead, he built a life where his family always felt safe, supported, and knew without question they could count on him.

Born to Stanley Higgins and Jane Higgins (formerly Witham), Dale was the youngest of three brothers and was raised in Kittery Point, Maine, where a love for the ocean, the outdoors, and the beauty of New England became part of who he was. Those early years shaped the values he carried throughout his life: humility, honesty, hard work, and a deep appreciation for family, nature, and home.

After graduating from trade school, Dale began what would become a lifelong career at Newington Station, serving as both an electrician and later an operator. He welcomed the challenges and complexities of his work, finding genuine satisfaction in solving problems and understanding how things worked. Those who knew him recognized that same thoughtful approach in every part of his life.

It was through Patricia Sevigny that Dale found the love story that would define the rest of his life. From the beginning, he believed in Patricia's dreams as wholeheartedly as he did his own, proudly supporting her as she attended Plymouth State University to become an art teacher. Together, they built a marriage grounded in trust, laughter, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to one another.

Marrying Patricia also meant becoming part of the wonderfully large and lively Sevigny family. With seven siblings, quiet was never part of the family vocabulary. There was always another birthday, holiday, cookout, or reason to gather. Dale didn’t simply marry into the Sevigny family—he jumped in with both feet and loved every minute of it. He embraced the beautiful chaos, the laughter, and the belief that any ordinary day was worth celebrating if everyone was together. To Dale, family wasn't something you fit into your schedule—it was the schedule.

That same love became the foundation of the family Dale and Patricia created together. They welcomed twins, Trevor and Ali, who quickly became the center of Dale’s world. Whether it meant driving countless miles to games and tournaments across New England and the East Coast or simply being there for everyday moments, Dale never missed an opportunity to support his children. He never complained. He simply showed up. Trevor and Ali never had to wonder if Dad would be there, because he always was.

Becoming Papa brought Dale his greatest joy. Connor, born in 2017, Ethan in 2019, and In 2025, Oliver filled his heart in ways words cannot describe. He treasured every moment with them, knowing the greatest gift he could give was simply his time and presence.

When he wasn’t with his family, Dale found peace fishing at Scituate Pond in York, on the waters off Portsmouth, New Hampshire, or caring for the home and land he and Patricia created together. To Dale, home was never just a place—it was where family gathered, memories were made, and everyone knew they belonged. Rarely far from his side was Oakley, his faithful companion, joining him on their treasured romps through the wooded trails of Kittery Point.

Dale taught by example that love is found in keeping your word, lending a hand without being asked, celebrating someone else’s success as if it were your own, and choosing family again and again. His life reminded all who knew him that the greatest measure of a person is not what they accomplish, but how they make others feel.

Dale is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate, Patricia Higgins; his children, Trevor Higgins and his wife, Rachel Higgins, and their son, Oliver, and Ali Higgins and her husband, Patrick Higgins, and their sons, Connor and Ethan. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Harris, and his wife, Roberta Harris; his niece, Courtney Edwards, and her sons, Tyler, Lucas, and Jeremy; his nephew, Dwayne Harris; the Sevigny family, whom he loved as his own; extended family; dear friends; and countless others whose Lives were forever touched by his kindness.

Although our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing that Dale’s presence did not end with his passing. We see him in Patricia, whose love continues to carry forward the home, traditions, and family they built together. We see him in every Christmas gathering, every sunrise over the waters off Portsmouth, every fishing trip to Scituate Pond, and every walk through the wooded trails of Kittery Point. We see him in Trevor’s devotion to building a life rooted in love and stability for Oliver, in Ali’s compassionate heart and the love she pours into Connor and Ethan, and in Connor, Ethan, and Oliver, who will come to know their Papa through the stories we tell and the values he instilled in all of us.

We see him every time someone chooses kindness, keeps a promise, offers a helping hand, or simply shows up for the people they love. His greatest legacy was never the home he built or the life he provided—it was the lives he shaped. The people who lovedhim are better because they were loved by him.
