Daniel John McDonald, of Alfred, ME passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family in the late evening hours of Thursday, September 28.

Born in July of 1943, he grew up in Rochester, NH and attended Rochester schools until he joined the Navy in 1961. He enjoyed a 27-year career in the Navy's submarine service. He later worked as an addictions counselor for the Navy and the private sector. He also drove an 18-wheeler, which he loved; and then worked for Florida hospital until he retired.

He met his wife Mona in high school, and they married in 1963.

Dan is survived by Mona, his wife of 60 years; his three children, Keith, Kathleen, and Kyle; his 7 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ryan, Benjamin, Tyler, Jordan, Matthew and Kelly; and 5 great grandchildren, Mila, Henrik, Marlow, Holland and Cormac.

There will be a time of visitation, Wednesday, October 4th, 5-7p at Bernier Funeral Home, 49 South St. Somersworth, NH. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 5th at 1:00 p.m. at St Ignatius of Loyola Parish St Martin church, 120 Maple St, Somersworth, NH.
