Obituary

Somersworth Daniel R. Vachon, 64, a lifelong resident of Somersworth died July 5, 2012. He was born July 13, 1947 to Leo and Lucille (Berube) Vachon. A 58 year polio survivor, Dan faced his everyday challenges with humor, courage and dignity. He was a source of inspiration and encouragement to so those fortunate enough to know him. He graduated suma cum laude from the University of New Hampshire, one of his proudest accomplishments. He went on to work for UNH, assisting those with physical disabilities find housing and the assistance they needed to be successful. He was a past vice president of Granite State Independent Living Foundation. His survivors include his siblings and their spouses, David and Patricia Vachon of South Berwick, Janet and George Knapp of Milton, NH, Ann and Gary Brown of Berwick, ME, and Tim and Linda Vachon of Sunnyvale, CA,. He also leaves several nieces and nephews and his longtime caregiver, Paula Searles, and his very special caregiver, friend and confidant Michaela Davis. A graveside service will be held on what would have been Dan s 65th birthday, Friday, July 13 at 11am at the family lot in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Somersworth. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution to the March of Dimes which was the first established polio patient aid fund.
