Darin James
Sabine
Aug 4, 1984 — Sep 7, 2019
Newington- Darin James Sabine, 35, was born August 4, 1984 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and passed peacefully in his home in Newington with his wife by his side and many family members close by on September 7, 2019 at the age of 35 after just over a two year courageous battle with stage 4 colon cancer.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, two daughters Sophia, 5 and Maya 3, his mother and father Brenda and Stephen Sabine of Newington , father and mother in law Robert and Cheryl Belanger as well as his sister and nephew Laura Sabine and Isaiah O'Neil of Newington and his brother and sister in law Derek and Emily Belanger. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins, in-laws, and countless friends that he would consider family.
Darin met each day with a mentality of, let's do this! He never gave up hope, he always looked for a little sparkle in each day, loved his family and friends, the fire service, and helping others. Darin had an infectious smile, laugh that could light up a room, and a voice that made him heard before he was seen.
Darin may have been known to many for his unwavering commitment to the fire service and the town of Newington specifically. He started out as a junior fire fighter after many years of riding his bike to the station to buy something from the vending machine. Really, it was just in hopes the guys would let him in the fire house. He always knew he wanted to be in the fire service and he worked hard to do so. There was nothing more that Darin loved as a young firefighter than to have the scanner on, going to calls, driving trucks, and being with his brothers and sisters at the station. Darin worked his way up the ranks and most recently was Fire Chief of Newington. He always looked for creative ways to secure needs of the department with the town's well-being at the forefront. Darin was known for many late night research sessions and past midnight phone calls to guys from the station with some new idea. Darin's brain never turned off. Continuing to work through the very end, attending meeting and work responsibilities while hooked to chemo and answering phone calls and emails from treatment at Dana- Farber in Boston. He always wanted to continue to work hard for the town he held so close to his heart and the station he admired so much.
Darin was much more than a firefighter though. He was a loving husband to Jennifer for the past 7 years and proud father to Sophia and Maya. His girls were his greatest accomplishment. Darin always enjoyed family time. Mostly while driving fast, whether it be on the highway, riding snowmobiles or four-wheeling, or driving a boat he was always up for an adventure. May Darin find peace in his new adventure.
Darin will be greatly missed by many.
One thing Darin talked often about after his diagnosis with colon cancer was to be your own advocate. If something doesn't seem right insist your doctors look in to it more. Trust your body, get early screenings if needed and be proactive.
