David L.
Cushman
Apr 6, 1940 — Oct 9, 2023
Eliot — David L. Cushman, (aka, "Papa Dave") 83, of Eliot, passed away on Monday, October 9, 2023, after a long battle with Lewy body Dementia and Parkinson's disease.
David was proud to serve over 20 years as a Technical Sargent in the United States Airforce and could often be seen sporting his favorite USAF baseball cap. After retirement, David worked for more than 16 years as a foreman on nuclear submarines at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
David was born in Bridgton, Maine the son of the late Guy and Fannie Cushman; father to Daren Cushman and Stacey Picott; and brother to the late Phil and Patrick Cushman.
He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife, Monique Cushman; his loving stepchildren: Veronique Courts Doherty & Robert McPherson, Anthony & Laura Courts, Angelique Courts Atwood; and grandchildren: the late Shawn Doherty, Zoe Mirador, Sarah Fleming, Dante Atwood, Madeleine Atwood, Nicolas Atwood, and Emily Courts.
David and Monique loved to travel and to explore new places, visit with friends, winter in Florida, golf and to spend time on vacation with their grandchildren.
David was an avid golf enthusiast and longtime member of the Rochester Country Club (affectionately known as "Sweet Pea") and original member of the Straight 8s Golf Club. In fact, on more than one occasion he would ride his bike to the club with his clubs on his back, there were NO car issues that could prevent him from getting to the course to hit the links.
David was truly one of a kind and a kid at heart, we will forever treasure the good times, family parties, playing in the pool, boating, horseshoes, sledding, walking through the woods, skiing, playing basketball, dancing, laughing, playing poker and his sarcastic humor.
Papa Dave, YOU will forever by in our hearts, minds, and souls, we love you!
No ceremonies will be held at this time a Celebration of life will be held in the spring.
