David Wayne Kinmond of York, ME formerly from Ossipee, NH died peacefully on September 22, 2024 at Sentry Hill at the age of 85.
David was the son of the late Althea and John Kinmond of Kittery, ME. He graduated from R.W. Traip Academy in 1957, where he was the president of his class. He went on to earn his bachelor of arts degree from the University of New Hampshire in 1961 and completed his Master of Education degree at University of Maine in 1964. Dave married his beloved wife, Brenda Frisbee Kinmond in June of 1962. They moved to Veazie, ME where Dave taught high school science at Old Town High School and coached basketball. Dave and Brenda moved to Ossipee, NH in 1967 and lived there for 52 years. Dave taught high school chemistry and was the science department head at Kingswood Regional High School in Wolfeboro, NH where he also coached basketball and golf. After 16 years of teaching, he was selected to direct Project Ease, in which he developed an energy education program for kindergarten age through adult. He later was named Assistant Principal for Kingswood Regional High School. Dave and Brenda owned and operated the Weathervane North Restaurant in Wakefield, NH for many years and Dave worked for Affinity Chillers in Ossipee, NH before his retirement.
Dave worked hard to take care of his family and their home. He loved his years teaching, coaching and meeting so many people with their restaurant business. Dave aka "Sparky" has been described as a character, always one to make his family and others laugh, offering words of wisdom and positivity and never afraid to laugh at himself. One of his favorite sayings throughout his life was "It is what it is". Dave loved hunting with his Ossipee hunting crew which including his son Scott. He also enjoyed cross country and downhill skiing, hiking, playing tennis, horse shoes and reading a good novel. He cherished playing with his grandchildren in their pool and working around his Ossipee home. He was an instrumental part of his children and grandchildren's lives and made a point to never miss any of their events. Dave had a wonderful group of friends and former colleagues who provided much love and laughter throughout his many years.
Dave's beloved wife of 61 years, Brenda, predeceased him in October of 2023. He is survived and loved by his son Scott D. Kinmond and wife Anne of Loudon, NH and daughter Heather Kinmond Skelley and husband Dave of Hamburg, NY. Grandchildren: Kayla Kinmond Towle and husband Robert of Loudon, NH; Meghan Kinmond Berry and husband Tanner of Tuftonboro, NH; Giana Cubeddu of West Palm Beach, FL; Rebecca Skelley of Rochester, NY and Joshua Skelley of Albany, NY. Great-grandchildren: Brooks Elliott Towle and Blair David Berry. David was an only child who was fortunate to have Brenda's family as his own. He is survived by sister in laws: Judith (Frisbee) Richardson of Elliot, ME; Alice Emery and husband G. Richard Emery, Mary Seward both of Kittery Point, ME; Lorraine Frisbee, York, ME and several nieces and nephews.
Dave's family is extremely grateful for the wonderful care he received while a resident at Sentry Hill as well as the care of Beacon Hospice at the end of his life. The family will celebrate his life at a later date in accordance with his wishes. Donations in his memory can be made to the Beacon Hospice, 25 New Hampshire Ave, Suite 272, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
