Obituary

David Royce Pettigrew ("Jay"), 73 years old, passed away Tuesday evening February 27th with loved ones by his side. A loving, proud father he leaves behind his son David, Grandson Liam, son Michael. Also sister Karen, Dana Norton, Eric, Daniel, and Kimberly Richards and Jennifer Nightingale. Predeceased by his parents Lila Backman, David Pettigrew Sr., brother Charles, sister Sue. Jay was a quiet man who touched many hearts. A lifelong resident of Eliot. He established Pettigrew Brothers construction before being drafted to the Vietnam War which took his inner freedom and peace. He earned two Bronze Stars for his service.  When he returned from the war he continued to work in construction as a heavy equipment operator. A true man of invention he created a portable rock crusher that proved to be invaluable on many construction sites. One of his many talents was working with his hands and making something from nothing and rebuilding what was before the draft. Our hearts are mourning for the man who gave more than he ever asked of others, who loved the ocean and built and meticulously maintained many wooden boats throughout his life, and who was a gifted auto mechanic and welder. Everything he built was fast and built to last. In his later years he built many model boats to scale from molds that he created himself. To have shared in his life has truly been a blessing and a treasure held tightly in the hearts of all fortunate enough to call him Dad, Brother, Family and Friend.

Graveside service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Eliot at 1pm.

Care for the Pettigrew family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey Funeral Home.
