?Wells-Delbert H. Spinney, 83, of Wells and formerly Eliot, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, March 21, 2016, after a long battle with COPD.
He was born March 13, 1933 in Portsmouth, NH, the son of Harris and Ina (Manson) Spinney. Delbert graduated from Eliot High School in 1950. In 1952 he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served with the 40th Infantry Division in Korea. Delbert retired as Postmaster in Eliot in 1988 having previously served as rural carrier, city carrier and clerk in that community. Delbert was a member and past commander of the Eliot American Legion Post 188 and was also a member of the Kittery/Eliot VFW Post 9394, Naval Lodge 184, and Kora Temple of Lewiston.
In the past, Delbert enjoyed camping with his wife, Gloria, and their children as well as his brother, Delwin and his wife, Sylvia. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers, sons, cousins and friends. He loved watching the Patriots and the Red Sox and keeping track of their scores all season. Delbert took pride in maintaining his yards and improving the homes they previously owned in Eliot, as well as their new home in Wells since 1999.
He was the husband of Gloria (Stone) Spinney for 54 years. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Armand E. Fernald. He is survived by his wife Gloria, His sons Norman and wife Shirley, Steven and wife Jo-Ann, and Craig and wife Luminita, his daughter Sheila Kelsey and husband Glenn, brother Delwin and wife Sylvia. Delbert is also survived by his aunt Sadie White and Aunt Violet Cormier. He is also survived by his grandchildren Marshall Spinney, Laurie Shepard, David Petrie, Amanda Rogers, Laura Taylor, Travis Kelsey, Robert Kelsey, James Spinney and John Spinney and 18 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
friends are invited to visit with Delbert's family in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine on Friday, April 1, 2016 from 6-8pm. A Funeral will be held Saturday, April 2nd at 11am at the Eliot United Methodist Church on Route 236 Eliot, ME. Refreshments will follow.
