Obituary

Lebanon- Diane E. Wanager, 69 of Columbus Circle in Lebanon died on Thursday, November 4, 2021 at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester NH, following a period of declining health.

Born in Portsmouth NH on June 9, 1952 she was the daughter of the late Helen Ruth and Edward H. Vetter.

Diane attended local schools graduating from Marshwood High School in 1970. She continued her education at the University of Maine in Gorham.

She met, and on December 6, 1971 married her loving husband of fifty years, Steven Wanager and together they built a home and raised their family in Eliot where they were active members of the community.

Diane had a long career in banking, working her way from the teller line to manager of the Eliot Branch of Maine National Bank. She worked with many young families and helped a number of young businesses grow with her support and guidance. She retired from Fleet Bank after their merger with Maine National, after working at the Wallingford Square Branch in Kittery.

Her servants heart extended well beyond her time in banking, touching the lives of so many in our community and beyond. She was a tireless supporter of so many helping organizations from veterans service organizations to local sports teams, Eliot Festival Day activities and her church, the First Congregational Church of Eliot, UCC, where she was a strong supporter of the youth and music programs and served on all boards at one time or another.

She could often be found sharing a laugh and visiting with friends at the Eliot Meat Market where local news and catch up happened daily. When asked how she was doing, she always returned with "I'm fine, what can I do for you, how are you!".

Following retirement she worked for a time keeping books at Del's Service Station in Eliot where she was able to keep close contact with her community, former clients and friends.

Above all her first love was her family, she shared a special bond with her parents and siblings and was a fierce supporter of her husband and children.

Most recently she and Steve made their home in Lebanon Maine.

She is survived by her husband Steve of Lebanon, daughters Christy and Syra and grandchildren Jeremy, Ayden, Isiah and Elaina, brothers; David and his wife Cathy Vetter of South Berwick, ME, Norman and his wife Stacia Vetter of Farmington, NH, Scott and his wife Kathleen Loch Vetter of Eliot, ME, and sister-in-law Diane Vetter of Lebanon, ME; she was predeceased by her parents, brother Edward Vetter Jr. and nephew David R. Vetter.
