Obituary

Donald "Don" I. Dobson died peacefully on Saturday, June 11 th at the age of 92.

Born in Swampscott, Massachusetts on June 28, 1929, he was the son of the late Archie Dobson and Julia (Gallivan) Dobson. He lived in Lynn in his youth and graduated from Lynn English High School.

Don served as a Radio Mechanic Sergeant in the United States Airforce from July 1947 until he was honorably discharged in July 1950. After working as a serviceman, he began working in the Banking Profession where he stayed for many years.

Don's true passion was singing and he was a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, formerly known as the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc (SPEBSQSA), for more than 72 years. He well-known for is his role as the tenor with the Four Rascals quartet, representing the Northeastern District of the SPEBSQSA. Between 1963 and 1966 the Four Rascals earned four consecutive medals in the International Quartet Contest, rising as high as 2 nd place in 1965 and 1966. Throughout the years, Don remained active in the Barber Shop community, participating in conferences and meetings all over the country. His enthusiasm continued when he moved to New Hampshire in June, 2021 where he joined the Seacoast Men of Harmony out of Dover, NH. Even at 92, he was still performing, most recently at Apple Harvest Day in Dover in October, 2021.

Don is survived by his wife, Miyuki (Ryu) Dobson of Falls Church, VA; five children, Pamela Crotty and her husband Andrew of Newmarket, NH; Lynda Whitehurst and her husband Steven of Saugus, MA; Donna Rosso and her late husband George of Eliot, ME; Sandra Dupuis and her husband Joseph of Andover, NH; Timothy Dobson and his wife Andrea of Wolcott, VT; his stepson, Kazuki Ko of Annandale, VA; two sisters, Jane Erickson of Ipswich, MA and Elaine Porteous of North Andover; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Joyce "Joy" Oliver.

Private funeral services are being held for immediate family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seacoast Men of Harmony, 61 Locust St, Dover, NH 03820. Care for the Dobson family has been entrusted to the JS Pelkey & Son Funeral Home.
