Obituary

York- Donald C. Fletcher, 87 of Pinecrest Drive in York died on September 28, 2015 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough. Born on February 14, 1928 in Saco, Maine he was a son of Louis and Della (Cressey) Fletcher and attended local schools. Don worked as a young man aboard the Boston Harbor Tug Boats before he joined the US Navy during World War II, following his time serving his country he returned to Boston Harbor working aboard the Tugs, where he would meet his loving wife Florence and together they would live for a time in Boston before settling on the Seacoast. He worked for over thirty two years at Simplex Wire and Cableas a millwright. He then went to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard working in shop 38 before retiring. He enjoyed home building and built 3 of the homes he, his wife, and family lived in locally. He was a long time lobster fisherman and enjoyed hunting especially deer and bear and later in life was an avid tuna and striper fisherman. He gave back to his community serving on boards and committees as well as Fraternal organizations. His first love was his family he dearly loved time spent with them and was blessed to have held each of his great grandchildren. He is survived by a daughter, Gail and her husband Kenneth Lemont, of Kittery; a son, Donald C. Fletcher Jr. of York; grandchildren Keith and his wife, Karissa Lemont, Eric and his wife, Meredith Lemont, Kiersten Fletcher and Christian Fletcher; and great-grandchildren, whom he adored, Emma, Harper, Zoe and Sebastian Lemont, a brother Richard and his wife Beatrice of Old Orchard and Bradley of Portland as well as several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to visit with Don's family on Saturday from 10am-noon in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904, where a funeral will be celebrated at noon with the Rev. Linda Hirst officiating. Burial will follow at First Parish Cemetery in York. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com.
