York- Doris Barton, 89 passed away April 23, 2017 following a brief illness. She was born in Waterville Maine , on October 27,1927 to Reverend and Mrs John MacGorman. After graduating from Caribou High School she married Richard Leland Jackson of Bradley Maine where they resided until moving to Pennsylvania in 1957 where the family eventually settled in State College , PA.

Doris worked in a supervisory position at the University Library.

She was widowed in 1985 and married a childhood friend Sherwood Barton in 1989. Sherwood and Doris moved to York Maine from Mars Hill in 1994 where they resided for the balance of their lives. Doris made her home at Kittery Estates in 2016 due to declining health.

Mr. and Mrs. Barton will be remembered for their active membership in the York Street Baptist Church where they served in a variety of capacities.

She is survived by her son James Jackson and daughter Catherine Christensen of Houston, TX; her daughter Judith Fouse from Northern Virginia; and a step son William Barton from Mars Hill Maine. She is also survived by ten grand and fifteen great grandchildren.

Friends are invited to join her family on Wednesday April 26, 2017 at 1 pm at the York Street Baptist Church at 61 York Street York Maine 03909, where a memorial service will be celebrated.
