Eliot- Doris Mae Grover, 94 of Hamilton Lane in Eliot died on May 18, 2021 at her home surrounded by family.
Born in Exeter, NH on January 21, 1927 she was a daughter of the late John C. And Ruth E. (Godfrey) Chapman.
Doris worked for many years in the banking industry in Portsmouth prior to her retirement.
She was active in her community serving as a cub and girl scout leader, member of the Eliot PTA, the Eliot Democratic Committee, avid bowler in her younger years and a seventy six year member of the John F. Hill Grange serving as Past Master and long time lecturer. For her community service she was honored to receive the "Fabyan Drake" Eliot Citizen of the Year Award in 2002. Doris also enjoyed many bus trips around the country with friends .
Doris was a cornerstone member of the First Congregational Church of Eliot UCC, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years and as Sunday school superintendent for many of them, she was active in the choir, her baked goods were the highlight of many church suppers and church fairs, and she blessed her church as a warm lead greeter every Sunday.
Doris is survived by her daughter Joanne Gscheidle, son in law William Budlong, and step son and daughter in law John and Colleen Grover. Grandchildren; Staci and her husband Jesse Wallingford, Patrick Chase, Heather Lutz, Diana and her husband Steve Pike, John Budlong, and Ian Grover, Great grandchildren; Brenda and her husband Damon, Katherine and her husband Travis , Samantha, Lucinda, Timothy, and Kimberly, great great; Hunter, Fisher, Elijah, Hazel, Timber, Emerald, Cameron and Chase and her sister June Brackett and many loved nieces and nephews.
She is predeceased by her son Jerry Evans daughter Joyce Budlong, two brothers and a sister .
A memorial service will be celebrated on Saturday June 5, 2021 at 11am with visiting from 10-11 prior to the service in the JS Pelkey and Son Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine 03904 with the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to her church at www.eliotucc.org ,
