Edward A.
Peterson
Jun 1, 1945 — Jun 3, 2025
Edward A. Peterson passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Tuesday, June 3, 2025, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital.
Born to Yvonne (Richard) and Harold Peterson in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 1, 1945, Ed was the oldest of two sons. His family moved to Kittery, Maine, while he was still very young, when his father accepted a job at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Growing up Ed spent many years on the water with his father lobstering, graduating from R.W. Traip Academy in 1963.
Ed met his wife, Margaret, in 1965 and married her in September of 1967. He was attending classes at Northeastern University in Boston until he was offered a position at the Portsmouth Navel Shipyard. They moved from Kittery to Eliot in January of 1976 where they raised a daughter and son. During the early years of their marriage they spent their summers camping in northern New Hampshire, later family and friends were invited to spend time at the pool in their backyard.
As a second job, to help support his family, Ed was a tax preparer for H & R Block and eventually an enrolled agent for the IRS with over fifty years of service to clients. His expertise with taxes eventually evolved into helping family, friends, and anyone with questions. He enjoyed helping people and loved telling them stories of his life.
After ending his thirty-six-year career at the Shipyard in 1999, as project manager of submarine maintenance, he and Margaret enjoyed traveling to Florida, eventually purchasing a second home in Lakeland where they spent time for ten years either after tax season or as snow birders.
Ed was extremely proud of his granddaughter, Victoria, and would talk about her accomplishments with anyone who would listen.
Ed will be remembered by his wife of fifty-seven years, Margaret, his daughter, Diane Peterson of Kittery, ME, his son Brian Peterson and wife Amy of Kittery ME, his granddaughter, Victoria Courchaine of Kittery, ME, his brother Tom Peterson and wife Linda of Marlborough, NY, and the many nieces and nephews to whom he was a beloved uncle.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, Mainspring of Kittery Maine, or Cornerstone VNA of Rochester New Hampshire.
Visiting hours will be held at J.S. Pelkey & Son Funeral Home on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a small service beginning at 2:00 pm.
