He was proud of his family heritage and would proudly say he was the Great Grandson of Isabelle Sewell of York on his mother's side of the family. On his father's side He was proud of saying that his Great Grandfather and Great Uncles had "Storer Carriage Manufacturing Company" building the Democratic Wagon and Toboggan Sleds! Also having Storer Canning Factory all in West Poland Maine.

Growing up at the family home on Harbor Road, in Kittery Point, Ed worked on Emery's farm, behind his grandmother's house, with his Uncle, (Ed McLoud) and his soon-to-be stepfather, (Edwin Goodwin).  Upon Graduating from Traip Academy in 1950, Ed held various jobs growing up.

In 1951 Ed joined the US Navy, being stationed in Groton CT. He served his country for seven years. During that time, he qualified on the USS Conger 477. Ed made three Life-Long friends, Lynn Rogers, Dick Abbott, and Herman Stolzenberg. Ed and crew wanted to Reenlist so they could go to Turkey and bring the USS Razorback SS394 back to the United States.

He got a job at the Portsmouth Hearld working in the mailroom, writing many notes on newspapers to friends that were "Snowbirds" in Florida and Arizona. Following the Portsmouth Herald Ed met his future companion, Nancy Sullivan. They were together for 26 years prior to her passing. He enjoyed Ballroom dancing and taking various bus trips with the Senior Center, flying to Arizona to visit Nancy's rother and they traveled several times to catch up with his Naval buddy's!
