Elaine
Plaisted
Mar 1, 1943 — Mar 21, 2026
Elaine Plaisted, 83, passed peacefully on Saturday, March 21, 2026, in Rye, New Hampshire.
Born on March 1, 1943, in Beverly, Massachusetts, Elaine was the daughter of the late Robert W. Barter and Edna Arlene (Witham) Barter. As a "Navy brat" during World War II, Elaine's early years were spent traveling to various states before her family settled in Eliot, Maine, a town she truly loved and where she graduated from high school.
Elaine's life was defined by her deep compassion for others. Though she worked in the banking industry for a time, her true calling was found in her service to the elderly. She spent many years teaching exercise classes at local senior centers in Dover, New Hampshire, sharing her infectious energy and helping others stay active. After retiring, she became a pillar of the community in York County, working for the Meals on Wheels program as both a driver and an administrator.
She was a dedicated supporter of the Kittery Senior Center and Footprints Food Pantry in Kittery. Outside of her formal work, Elaine was an avid cribbage player and truly loved playing games with the seniors at the Kittery Senior Center.
Elaine is predeceased by her brother Robert W Barter II.
Elaine is survived by her beloved husband, Richard C Plaisted.
She leaves behind a beautiful and growing legacy, including her son, John W. P. Goodrich II and his wife, Stephanie; their children: Bethany and her husband Mark (and their son, Leo), Hannah and her husband David (and their children, Adelaide and Parkman), Micah and her husband Desmond, and Caleb and his wife Morgan.
She is also survived by her daughter, Denise Goodrich Lamere and her husband, Robert Lamere; their children: Nathan Lamere and his wife, Tasha (and their children, Kayleigh, Nateleigh, and Jonathan); and Rebecca Lamere and her children, Mckenzee Lamere-Cray and Jaxon St. John and step-granddaughter Alexis(Lexi) Heald.
Elaine loved her children, her grandchildren, and her great-grandchildren deeply. Her heart for service and her devotion to her family will be missed by the many lives she touched.
