Elder Revim
John Fitzgerald “John” Seran
Apr 28, 1961 — Jan 5, 2025
Revim John Fitzgerald "John" Seran, 63, peacefully returned to God on January 5, 2025, surrounded by family and friends at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. John was born on April 28, 1961, in Langowan, Indonesia, to Gerson Seran and Eveline Wowiling. John is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Kristine Seran, who stood by his side through every step; his strong-willed mother, Eveline, who resides in Indonesia; his daughter Kezia Seran and son Rick Seran; and his grandson Enzio Seran, his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers Reven, Marthin, and Ventje; his sisters-in-law, whom he cherished as if they were his own siblings; his many nieces and nephews, whom he loved like his own children; and his niece Karen Suitela, his personal comedian.
John is preceded in death by his father, Gerson Seran, who served as John's greatest inspiration. Before moving to the United States, John received his bachelor's degree in Fisheries Engineering at the University of Sam Ratulangi (Universitas Sam Ratulangi) and his master's degree in Environmental Science at the University of Indonesia (Universitas Indonesia). As a passionate student, John went on to attend numerous seminars and workshops related to environmental sciences. Following in his father's footsteps, John was a teacher and instructor at the institutions where he received his degrees, as well as other schools in Indonesia. For John, education was the most important. He cheered on everyone who was going through school, from kindergarten to graduate degrees, and believed in the value of hard work over intelligence. To anyone who shared his plans with him, he ambitiously responded with "Just do it," with a smile on his face.
In the United States, he served as an Elder at Marturia Presbyterian Church in Rochester, NH, and worked at Foss Manufacturing Company in Hampton, NH, for over 20 years. His deep commitment to providing for his wife and daughter motivated every moment he spent at Foss. His family, loved ones, and community will always remember him as someone who never took things too seriously. He always brought laughter and joy to everyone around him. He treated children as equals and the elderly with playful care. His nieces and nephews especially loved John's laugh, which was the most contagious.
This life brought him many enjoyments: eating calzones and steak bombs with his nephew, savoring cannolis, vanilla ice cream, and his favorite Indonesian cake, cucur, and standing behind the Celtics and Patriots through every hardship and triumph. Additionally, in his youth, he developed his lifelong hobby, kempo, and received up to a second-degree black belt. Most importantly, he loved clothes and all things fashion. He had lots of joy choosing and laying out his outfits the night before. He was even the one who taught his daughter how to walk in high heels confidently.
Immense gratitude goes out to the nurses and team at Massachusetts General Hospital and Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, who provided John with exceptional care and compassion.
