Dover-Fannie Ure Whitney, 80 of Dover NH died on October 10, 2018 at her home with loving family by her side , following a short period of failing health.
Born in Saratoga Springs NY on February 7, 1938 Fannie attended local schools with her 7 siblings. She then worked as a soda-jerk and switchboard operator buying her first car and providing some luxuries for her mother at the family dairy farm . In 1959 she married her husband of sixty years George Whitney whom she met at the Bermuda Naval station after being pen-pals . He was known as Mickey and she as his " mail-order-bride" and together they made a home in Kittery Point and raised their family.
An outstanding musician Fannie played many musical instruments and was an accomplished singer. She performed at too many fund raisers, nursing homes and schools to count. She attended the Thomas Point Beach Bluegrass Festival for many years even being voted "F an of the Year" with George once . She was also very blessed to meet many of her favorite singers at the festival s they attended and to perform with her husband. In younger years she was an avid bowler as a member of the "Coffee Breakers" in Portsmouth. A hunter for years, as she got older could still be counted on by the family to help process the bounty.
She is survived by her husband George Whitney, daughter Wendy L. Whitney and her husband Michael Waldron of Kittery, son Stephen R Whitney Sr and his wife Cathy Perkins Whitney of Kittery, son Wayne Whitney of Kennebunk , granddaughter s Tabitha Whitney, Telishia Altis , grandsons; Travis Lijew ski , Dylan Whitney, Stephen Whitney Jr, Joseph Martel, William Hickman ; close friends Rajan , Kranti and little Ayaan Khodwe and her very best friend Mac Boston .
Friends are invited to visit with Fannie's family from 12-2pm on Saturday October 20, 2018 in the JS Pelkey Funeral Home 125 Old Post Road Kittery Maine, where a funeral will be celebrated at 2pm. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com .Burial will follow at Brooks Memorial Park and Cemetery and a reception will follow burial at The Parish Hall at the First Congregational Church UCC in Eliot.
