Portsmouth, NH - Fay Frances [Pettigrew] Major, 81, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, May 9 ^th , 2022

Fay was born at the old Portsmouth Hospital on November 26, 1940. She was the only child of Willis and Frances [Johnston] Pettigrew. She grew up on the Pettigrew homestead and graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery in 1958 then went on to graduate from Gorham State College in 1962. She taught first grade at Chandler School in Somersworth, NH. After marrying her husband, George in 1966 she taught pre-school for Laurie Charette prior to opening her own pre-school, Wee Workers Kindergarten. She also worked for many years with her husband and his business Major Tax Service.

Together George and Fay adopted their two children, Kerry and Kimberly, and spent many years in their home in Somersworth. They are also the proud grandparents of Brittany and Aden.

Fay was a member of the United Methodist Church in Berwick where she taught Sunday School for a number of years. Then after moving back to Kittery and building their home on the Pettigrew homestead, Fay and George joined the Kittery United Methodist church. Fay held several positions in the women's groups at both churches.

Through her life she's been very artistic using many mediums including ceramics, painting, pen and ink and quilling. She always had art supplies on hand for both her children and grandchildren any time they needed them. She was very involved in family genealogy keeping records for several branches in her family tree.

Fay is survived by her husband, George, of Portsmouth; son Kerry Major and husband Jeffery Seymour of Kittery; daughter Kimberly Major of Kittery; and grandchildren Brittany Adrien and Aden Wiggin.

Services:  A Time of Visitation will be held for Fay on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, from 5 to 7pm at the J S Pelkey and Son Funeral Home, 125 Old Post Rd, Kittery, ME 03904.  The following Wednesday morning, 5/18/2022, at 11am a Funeral Service will be held at J S Pelkey and Son Funeral Home.  A Graveside Service will follow at Mt Pleasant Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff at Wentworth Senior Living and Beacon Hospice. They have been very supportive and caring during the past several months. Thank you all. Services are entrusted to the Pelkey Funeral Home in Kittery, Maine.
