On May 23rd, surrounded by his forever loving family, Forrest Young born in Boston, MA, on April 21, 1940, passed away peacefully at home. Forrest was a lifelong resident of Eliot, Maine.
Forrest (Dad) loved his family more than anything and was truly cherished by his wife of 67 years, Gloria, their son Michael, son Mark and his wife Sherri, son Keith and his wife Stephanie and daughter Deanna and her husband Richard. He also enjoyed their grandchildren, Keshia and her partner Greg and son Marshall, Joshua and his wife Hannah, Cameron and his wife Amanda and their children Olivia, Gwen, Bella and Scarlette, Alissa and her husband Dave and their children Brianna and Caleb, grandson Alec and also his brother-in-law Dave and his wife JoAnn.
Forrest had a smile for everyone and made and kept friends easily. His smile and bright blue eyes would light up the room. He always made his friends and family feel important. He taught his children how to love and to believe in themselves. He loved his family unconditionally, and his guiding life lessons shaped all of his children. Forrest cherished life and always said "work hard, play hard". He was a true believer in living life to the fullest. His greatest hobby which he shared with his family and friends was camping in North Conway and enjoying the Swift River. He was excellent at landscaping, cooking, and dancing to music. Forrest enjoyed traveling with Gloria, Naples Florida and Jamaica being favorite destinations.
Forrest was a Veteran of the Navy, submarine division. He enlisted in the navy to honor his Uncle Harvey L. Nesbitt who was lost at sea while on duty on the USS Corvina 226. Forrest attended submarine school in Groton CT after graduating high school in Eliot Maine. He was on several submarines in both Key West Florida and Charleston South Carolina. The USS Odax SS- 484 and the USS Darter SS-576 were his proudest patrols. Forrest was honored to be a member of the Holland Club, an exclusive group within the U.S. Submarine Veterans organization, where the core requirement for eligibility is designation "qualified in submarines" for a minimum of 50 years. He was also a member of the Sturgeon Base at Crystal River Florida, a chapter of the United States Submarine Veterans (USSVI), a veteran's group that participates in supporting former submariners.
Forrest owned many businesses throughout his lifetime, Youngs American and the Tulsa, both gas stations in Portsmouth NH and most recently Evan's Notch Motel and Cottages in Gilead Maine.
Predeceased by his parents Cortland and Marjorie Young, his sisters, Priscilla and Lorinda, his mother-in-law Gertrude who he adored, her husband Nazzareno Alessi and their son Robert Alessi and his wife Joan.
Husband, Dad, Veteran, friend, Grampy, Great Grampy, you will forever be in our hearts, and we love you so very much and we know you love us.
