Francis C. Hartford died peacefully on June 19, 2023, the day after he turned 89 at Edgewood Center for Rehab & Healthcare in Portsmouth, NH.
Fran was born June 18,1934 at his grand parents farm in Barrington, NH. He was the son of Lillian and Gordon Hartford.
He was a graduate of Eliot High School in Eliot, ME and earned his masters in Industrial Arts at Gorham State Teachers College in Gorham, ME. He taught industrial arts at Eliot High School and Marshwood High School for 36 years. After retiring, he formed his own business in home repairs and construction.
Fran was married for 66 years to his high school sweetheart SaIly, together they had two daughters, Deborah Armitage and her husband Phil of South Berwick, ME. Lori Doherty and her husband Tim of Pelham, NH, grandchildren: Danielle Demers and her husband Christopher of York, ME, Nicole Gearty and her husband Zachary of Lebanon,ME , and Shailey Doherty of Pelham, NH, two beautiful great grandchildren ; Julian Demers and Ryleigh Gearty.
Fran was a gifted teacher who generously shared his talent with the many people he taught. His legacy lives on the through the numerous beautiful homes, buildings and furniture crafted by his students.
He lived a full and rewarding life. Fran loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed traveling, camping and woodworking,
Fran was an Eagle Scout, a member of the First Congregational Church of Eliot, ME, the Chickadee Camping Club, Eliot Historical Society, and John F Hill Grange member.
Friends are invited to join Frans family, celebrating his life at 11am on Friday June 23rd in the First Congregational Church of Eliot, UCC 1361 State Road in Eliot, with the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Hoffman officiating. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.jspelkeyfuneralhome.com .
